Kristin Ojaniemi: Spring turkey hunting in Michigan’s ‘unspring-like’ conditions

I remember the first time I saw a wild turkey in my corner of the western Upper Peninsula. It was about 20 years ago, and the giant bird was standing in the middle of a backroad in Ontonagon County. I stopped alongside of it and rolled my window down to get a better look.
