On April 21, the New York State Assembly’s Environmental Conservation Committee approved (reported) A10633/S09462. The bill, if passed, will permit DEC to expand the ability to issue antlerless deer permits in the Northern Zone.
DEC has been issuing DMPs in portions of Region 6, the western half of the Northern Zone, for some time. But without authorization from the state legislature, it can’t do the same in Region 5, which is the eastern portion of the Northern Zone.
