Video shows evidence of reproducing cougar population in Minnesota for first time in more than 100 years

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced today that for the first time in more than 100 years, evidence of cougars reproducing in Minnesota was documented in video captured by the University of Minnesota’s Voyageurs Wolf Project.
The footage, which was captured on March 25 and first seen by researchers when the cameras were collected this past Sunday, April 26, shows a female cougar with three large kittens.

A Minnesotan’s waterfowling life: Remembering legendary wildlife artist David Maass

“I’ve always liked to draw, even as a little kid, and I was raised in the outdoors. So, put those together, and I guess I was made to become a wildlife artist,” David Maass told this writer for a 2006 interview and Outdoor News article.
We spent several hours chatting about subjects like duck hunting, conservation, and his life and his artwork, at his log cabin studio on the north shore of Minnesota’s Lake Minnetonka.

Minnesota’s early turkey kill drops from 2025 as hunters deal with poor weekend weather

Minnesota’s spring turkey hunters did not catch a break with the weather during the early portion of the season, and harvest numbers so far seem to be reflecting that.
Snow in early April made things feel a bit like winter in some parts of the state ahead of the April 15 opener for the first seven-day firearms season. Hunters who could hunt weekdays during the A season had good conditions in some areas, but the weekend was cold and windy.

Casting in the concrete jungle: Kayak fishing grows in downtown Chicago

Kayak fishing has exploded across the country over the past decade, but few places offer a more striking backdrop than downtown Chicago.
Where skyscrapers tower above historic bridges and the river’s surface reflects a blend of steel and glass, anglers are discovering a unique and surprisingly accessible urban fishery. Chicago’s waterways, long dominated by architecture tours, commuters, and recreational paddlers, are now attracting a growing community of kayak anglers.

Glenn Sapir: The makings of an opening day dream turkey hunt

As much as I try to go to sleep early in anticipation of the 3:45 a.m. alarm, my mind and body won’t surrender to slumber. The anticipation and earliness of this 10 p.m. bedtime is just not conducive to sleep. Somehow, it eventually happens, and the next day plays out just as I dreamt it would.
What would a dream hunt on May 1, the New York turkey opener, look like?
