10-year-old Ohioan bit big time by the fishing bug

A fiberglass Skeeter bass boat, Yamaha SHO 250 VMX, power poles, $500 Dobyns rods, $400 Daiwa reels, forward-facing sonar, rain gear rated by resistance to hurricane force winds, $99 fishing pants, $20 crankbaits, $350 glide baits, and a fishing jersey of indistinguishable color because it’s plastered with sponsor logos.
None of those items or entry fees will be part of a story unfolding outside the tiny village of Deavertown, Ohio, in Morgan County. However, the story will describe one of the best young bass fishermen in the southeast corner of Ohio, Orin VanHorn.

Michigan DNR confirms 31 cougar sightings in the state in 2025

Michigan DNR reported there were a total of 31 confirmed cougar sightings across the state in 2025, the largest number of sightings since 2008.
The increase comes with a significant caveat: DNR pointed out that the number of trail cameras in Michigan’s outdoors has also edged up, with DNR operating more than 1,300 trail cameras in the Upper Peninsula alone.
