Repower your outboard or trolling motor: Here are top options for 2026

If an angler wants a new motor, there are more options than ever, with more colors to match your gelcoat, and lower heartaches at the gas pump. These things sip fuel, don’t require ear plugs to operate, and they require less maintenance than in year’s past.

Repower, or buy a new rig, but the options below won’t disappoint.

Mercury

The all-new V10 425hp Verado and performance-enhanced V10 350hp Verado establish new benchmarks in the high-horsepower outboard segment. Both models deliver exceptional power, acceleration, and fuel efficiency while continuing Mercury’s reputation for smooth, quiet operation.

The 425hp Verado offers class-leading acceleration with a significant weight advantage, coming in 254 pounds lighter than a 450hp competitor (25-inch XL models). It features a 150-amp alternator, the highest output in its class, and operates 22% quieter at cruise than competing models.

The upgraded 350hp Verado delivers measurable gains in top-end speed and midrange acceleration, achieving 2.7 mph higher top speed than a 350hp competitor in light-load testing. It also provides four times the alternator output at cruise and runs 40% quieter at cruise.

Both models include digital throttle and shift (DTS) as standard equipment and offer joystick piloting for precise helm handling and confidence.

Suzuki

At the top of Suzuki’s lineup, the DF350A stands as the brand’s flagship outboard, delivering 350 horsepower with refined maneuverability and compact design.

Now available in cool white and Pearl nebular black, the DF350A blends performance with modern styling.

Suzuki’s Advanced Precision Control System, a drive-by-wire technology, eliminates mechanical control cables to provide smooth, responsive throttle and shifting. The system is especially effective at low RPMs, making docking and close quarters maneuvering easier and more controlled.

Suzuki’s contra-rotating dual propeller system improves grip and efficiency by evenly distributing torque across two propellers. This allows for reduced gear size and a more hydrodynamic gearcase without sacrificing performance.

By positioning the crankshaft forward of the driveshaft, Suzuki moves the center of gravity forward, reducing vibration and improving overall balance and performance.

Honda

The redesigned Honda BF200, BF225, and BF250 outboards combine sleek styling with meaningful upgrades to performance, durability, and ease of operation. Inspired by the flagship BF350 V8, they feature a cool exterior design that complements a wide variety of hulls.

Available with Honda Intelligent Shift and Throttle (iST), these drive-by-wire outboards deliver effortless, customizable control. All iST-equipped models now include automatic tilt, trim support, and cruise control, matching the advanced functionality of Honda’s big HP motors.

Honda’s reliability remains central to the lineup, with multiple quality improvements focused on corrosion protection, simplified maintenance, and long-term durability. Whether working, cruising, fishing, or relaxing, the BF200, BF225, and BF250 are engineered to maximize time on the water.

Yamaha

For more than a decade, Yamaha in-line four-stroke outboards have been the go-to choice for anglers and boaters seeking lightweight, versatile performance. From coastal bays to inland lakes, they deliver compact power with proven reliability.

The new Yamaha F200 and F150 are available in mechanical, digital with integrated steering, and Power-Assisted Tiller configurations. The F200 In-Line Four features variable camshaft timing (VCT) to boost torque throughout the RPM range and delivers excellent power-to-weight efficiency while its little buddy, the F150, doesn’t compromise on features either. Any anglers loving a tiller for back trolling to navigating a brackish-water marsh in the salty stuff, will love their Yamaha options.

Designed for serious anglers, QUEST models feature dual 24- or 36-volt brushless motors that deliver up to 30% longer runtime and 50% greater torque compared to 24-volt brushed motors.

All Ultrex models now include an enhanced GPS suite with Drift Mode, allowing anglers to automatically compensate for wind and current without ropes or anchor paddles.
