Venison donations can help balance Ohio’s deer herd

With deer numbers continuing to increase, in all but the most highly affected areas ravaged by EHD this season, the Ohio Division of Wildlife (DOW) is inviting hunters to consider shooting extra deer this season to donate to organizations who can provide venison to people facing food insecurity.

Michigan’s Mark Sak heading into Fishing Hall of Fame

From growing up as a simple farm boy in Brown City, Mark Sak has fished and written his way to a spot on the wall of the national Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wis.
When the Hall announced recently it’s 2026 class of inductees the long-time outdoors writer and former walleye fishing tournament pro was on the list.
“I couldn’t believe it. I know what it takes to get in and honestly I thought the payoff for me was that I was nominated. That’s an incredible honor itself. I honestly thought that was as far as it would go,” Sak told Michigan Outdoor News.
