Steve Carney: Early duck hunting and whitetail weirdness

As we approach the midpoint of the Minnesota waterfowl season, we can only hope things will get better. For this hunter, it’s been a struggle so far. I have spent a good deal of time paddling river systems, and public lakes and sloughs, with minimal success.
One example was three hours of canoeing a small river system that has been decent the past few years and having one shot opportunity in two miles.

Conservation champions Lessard, Anderson honored with new Minnesota Wildlife Management Area

Supporters gathered just a few steps from the banks of the Rainy River on Oct. 6 for a dedication ceremony to celebrate the new Lessard-Anderson Wildlife Management Area in northern Minnesota.
The WMA is named in honor of two key figures in Minnesota conservation: Bob Lessard and the late Bob Anderson.

Minnesota Mixed Bag: North Metro Ice Show comes to Ramsey, Oct. 25-26

Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. Tickets are $10 for those ages 16 to 54; $7 for those age 5 and under and 55 and older, as well as active/retired military personnel. Kids under age 5 are admitted free.
