Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission awards R3 education grants to 17 fishing groups

The Fish & Boat Commission announced Sept. 9 that it has awarded $196,832 in grant funding through its R3 Education Grant Program.
Through this program, the commission will support 16 education projects in 10 counties to promote new and renewed interest in fishing and boating in Pennsylvania through the recruit ment of new participants, retention of existing participants, and reactivation of former participants – collectively known as “R3.”

Pennsylvania DCNR designates new ATV rural route in Tioga County

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll and Pennsylvania State Forester Seth Cassell announced the first designated All-Terrain Vehicle Route to boost rural economies and the commonwealth’s $19 billion outdoor recreation industry.
Route 49 in the Borough of Westfield, Tioga County, is the first route approved under a new process where municipalities or regional organizations that manage trail networks can request an ATV route designation from PennDOT.

Pennsylvania man’s warrantless trespassing suit against PF&BC moves forward

A federal judge on Sept. 5 denied a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a Susquehanna County man challenging the constitutionality of a Pennsylvania statute that Pennsylvania waterways conservation officers twice relied on to warrantlessly search his property.
Tim Thomas and his attorneys from the Arlington, Virginia-based nonprofit Institute for Justice can now move forward with their Fourth Amendment case challenging the statute’s application to his property.
