Illinois trappers to hold 63rd annual convention

Champaign, Ill. — The Illinois Trappers Association will hold its annual convention at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Lincoln Oct. 3-4. Admission is free and vendor buildings and trapping demonstrations will open starting at 8 a.m. both days.

There will be a Trappers Education course given from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 4. Anyone interested can contact Doug Stellhorn (618-535-1600) to reserve space, as the number of students is limited.

Demonstrations will cover a wide range of species, and will show a variety of techniques and tips. A new demo will begin every hour on the hour and run all day, both days. Check the ITA Facebook page and website soon for a complete demo schedule.

The ITA depends heavily on the sale of raffle ticket to fund a variety of activities, including paying the services of a lobbyist to defend Illinois trapping rights. Tickets will be sold at the convention and may also be had by contacting any director or officer.

The activities Oct. 3 will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the free Awards Dinner followed by the 19th Annual Awards Presentations. Everyone is welcome to attend. The evening will close with the Legal Defense Fund Auction, proceeds of which go to defend trappers’ rights.

The convention will close with a General Membership meeting at 3 p.m. on Oct. 5 in the main vendor building. Members are encouraged to attend as the organization will explain what has been happening and what is being proposed for next year.

Ample camping is available on the grounds, both primitive and RV for a nominal fee (Electrical hookups additional). Comfort Inn & Suites is the host hotel, located just a few minutes from the fairgrounds
