Residents along Lake Minnetonka’s shoreline and Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies, Inc. President Jim Doyle like to say there are two different types of boat users. There are anglers who are constantly thinking about the underwater structure and vegetation while pursuing fish. And there are those who hop in a boat and view the water as simply flat.
“There are the boaters who look at it as a flat sheet of water that they drive around on and anything that impedes that is a problem for boating,” Doyle said.
The impediment? Invasive lake vegetation such as Eurasian watermilfoil.

The city of West Bend donated 2,400 pounds of ground venison to The Full Shelf Food Pantry this year. The venison came from 83 deer shot by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) sharpshooters as part of the city’s deer abatement program.
All the adult deer were tested for chronic wasting disease and none tested positive. West Bend was one of 42 communities that received urban/nuisance deer removal permits issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) last year.

This was not a good start to our day. Getting out early on Lake Erie is always a good idea, given how the lake is capable of kicking up and sending you back to the dock with much less than a limit of walleyes.
But in launching ahead of the sunrise, fishing buddy Terry Catlin and I were doing so even before Tim Horton’s was open for business. That didn’t bother Terry, who isn’t a coffee drinker. But I had to forego my customary Double Double (two creams, two sugars for those unfamiliar with the Tim’s lingo).

Groundwater contamination by polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals continues to be an issue on Long Island and other parts of New York State.
In May, the New York State Department of Health issued an updated health advisory, including a new “Do Not Eat” advisory for consuming pumpkinseed, sunfish, and American eels from the Carll’s River in the Town of Babylon, in Suffolk County; the result of a three-year study by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, during which fish samples from the river were analyzed at DEC’s Hale Creek Field Station to determine the levels of PFAS in their tissues.

There is a misconception among non-hunters, as well as hunters who have never hunted baited bears, that it’s easy. After all, you toss out some doughnuts next to your stand, throw up a trail camera, and wait for Yogi to show up.
The truth is that if you want an action-packed bear hunt, you’d better think through your process. This almost always starts with bait choice.
To ensure a good bear hunt this fall, consider your baiting approach carefully Read More »
