Sundays for fall hunting ’25 will be decided soon in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Game Commission on July 28 is expected to add Sundays to this fall’s hunting seasons during its meeting in Harrisburg.
The meeting had been scheduled for earlier in the month. But after the Legislature passed House Bill 1431 to lift the ban on Sunday hunting on June 30 and Gov. Shapiro signed it into law on July 9, the Game Commission postponed the session for several weeks to allow hunters to submit suggestions on which Sundays to add to which seasons.

Ryan Rothstein: When it comes to hunting, and nature, it’s OK that we’re not as smart as we think we are

It’s October 18, and the forecast is calling for highs in the upper 60s – more than a dozen degrees above normal – while the wind is forecast to blow from the southeast at a steady 15 to 20 miles per hour. Hardly ideal deer-hunting conditions for this time of year. And besides, your will to hunt took a hit after your sit two days earlier.

Tom Bahti: Know when to ‘lighten up’ a bit when it comes to hunting guns

We all remember when we were younger – in our 20s, 30s, and 40s. We were still panther quick and leather tough, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Unfortunately, age catches up with all of us, and nature always bats last. As I’m now closer to 80 than to 70, I’ve begun to appreciate lighter firearms more and more.

No Minnesota representative present at ‘wolf conversations’ national meeting

This past winter, a group of 25 individuals, with differing opinions ranging from advocacy for to staunch opposition to federal protections for wolves, gathered for a meeting of the minds at the National Wolf Conversation.
The three-day conference in January was funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and moderated by Constructive Conflict LLC with the goal of hosting conversations beyond blind opposition of the other side. And it was an experience that attendees say they found to be enriching.

Pennsylvania’s hunting license sales lag in early stages

Pennsylvania hunters weren’t in a hurry to buy their antlerless licenses during the first round this year, and they apparently weren’t in a rush to get their hunting licenses as well.
With a record 1.3 million antlerless licenses allocated this year, the Pennsylvania Game Commission guaranteed resident hunters a doe tag in the wildlife management unit of their choice for the first round. By the time the first round ended on July 14, not one unit had sold out and most had plenty of tags remaining.

Jeremiah Haas: Adapting deer hunting tactics after summer storms

Almost all of Illinois has been hit by severe storms in June and July.
While you may not be thinking about hunting season regarding that, it is something to consider as we move into August and last-minute preparations are being made. First, assess what damage has occurred and if you need to make some changes.
