Southwestern Minnesota Pheasants Forever chapter celebrates 50 land acquisitions

Since its inception in 1984, the Nobles County Chapter of Pheasants Forever in southwestern Minnesota has been all about the dirt.
That is, purchasing parcels of land with the express purpose of raising ring-necked pheasants and other wildlife and having those acres open to public recreation, most notably hunting. Last Friday evening, chapter members, local elected representatives, and others raised their glasses and champagne-toasted the chapter’s 50th land acquisition.

Is there interest in pausing northeast Minnesota elk relocation efforts? Red Lake Nation, DNR sign onto management agreement

This year and likely into the future, collaboration regarding northwestern Minnesota elk management between the state DNR and Red Lake Nation will be more intertwined, officials say.
On Thursday, June 12, both entities signed a memorandum of understanding that outlines the allowable total elk harvest for the 2025 hunting season and seeks to ensure that communication between the agencies increases related to elk management.

An increased limit coming on Minnesota’s Mille Lacs? Walleye take at one-fifth of state quota

For the second season in a row, the Lake Mille Lacs state-angler walleye kill remained at the end of June far below a quota set during state DNR-tribal co-management negotiations last winter. The difference: A year ago, open-water fishing remained catch and release only through mid-August, after which two fish were allowed to be harvested.
This year, the regulations allow for the keeping of two fish (17 inches or greater, and only one of them may be over 20 inches).

Longstanding Winous Point Shooting Club an important part of duck study in Ohio

The Winous Point Shooting Club (WPSC) on Lake Erie’s Sandusky Bay traces its history to 1856, making WPSC the oldest, continuously operating duck club in North America.
A group of writers and photographers from the Outdoor Writers of Ohio (OWO) were recently offered a tour of what is Ohio’s largest privately-owned marsh.

Bob Gwizdz: Michigan’s Hex season was short, but sweet!

I was beginning to think this was going to be a bust. Again.
We were on the Au Sable River and by 10 p.m. my partner, Steve Sendek, said he’d seen a total of two giant mayflies. (I hadn’t seen any, but my night vision ain’t what it used to be.) Sendek started going on about how maybe we should abandon ship and head for another stretch of river where he knew there would be bugs, but that was a non-starter.
