Bass Pro Shops to open new Clifton Park store July 30 in New York

Bass Pro Shops is coming to the Capital District. The new outlet, the company’s fourth in New York, is set to open with its traditional Evening for Conservation on Wednesday, July 30. 
Prior to a 6 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony that evening, Country Music singer/songwriter Blaine Holcomb will perform, starting at 5 p.m. Also on hand will be pro bass fishing legends Jimmy Houston, Roland Martin and Kevin VanDam, along with reigning Bassmaster Elite Series angler of the year Chris Johnston.

Western Lake Erie’s algal bloom likely to be mild to moderate in 2025

On June 26, during the 14th such event, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced its annual harmful algal bloom forecast for this summer on western Lake Erie, as expressed using a severity index score. 
The meeting, which was attended by members of the media, elected officials, Stone Lab faculty, students, researchers, agency staff, and others was hosted in the Stone Laboratory classroom building lecture room on Gibraltar Island in the harbor at Ohio’s Put-in-Bay.

Registration open for Women’s Outdoor Adventure weekend in Ohio

The Ohio DNR (ODNR) recently announced the return of the Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure weekend, now in its 11th year. The popular event, which features three days of fun and outdoor exploration, will be held Friday, Sept. 12 through Sunday, Sept. 14 at Deer Creek State Park and Lodge in Mount Sterling, Ohio.

And while deer are often considered a forest animal, there’s actually not much for a deer to eat in truly mature, old-growth forests. Agencies slamming cuts to H2Ohio Initiative

As the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and partner agencies release their 2025 Lake Erie harmful algal bloom forecast predicting a mild to moderate algal bloom season, water quality experts are highlighting the critical role of Ohio’s H2Ohio program in keeping the problem from worsening.
