Key policies find their way into Minnesota bill for environment

On Thursday, May 29, the Environment and Natural Resources Working Group reached bipartisan agreement on its budget bill that includes a few policy changes.
As of Outdoor News’ press time Gov. Tim Walz hadn’t called for a special session. But the House and Senate members of the working group anticipate the bill passing without change when it hits their respective floors for final approval.

Johnny Morris, angler, conservationist and founder of Bass Pro Shops, is challenging families everywhere to get outside and enjoy the wonders of fishing and the great outdoors this summer with the Gone Fishing event.
To kick off this annual event, Morris and Bass Pro Shops are donating more than 40,000 rods and reels to not-for-profit partners that help kids connect to the great outdoors.

Walleyes and smallies are the top draw on Michigan’s Walloon Lake

With robust walleye and smallmouth bass populations, a good northern pike fishery, and an on-and-off perch fishery, Walloon Lake has a good bit of diversity for anglers upon which to test their skills.
What it doesn’t have is a fishable trout population, despite years of stocking efforts by the DNR to produce such a fishery.

Grayling, Mich., man is arraigned in campground pipe theft case

A Grayling man faces two felony charges, including safe breaking and possession of burglary tools, following arraignment May 23 in Crawford County’s 87-C District Court.
Andrew William Michalak, 54, was arraigned for his involvement in a series of state forest campground thefts targeting payment collection sites – known as pay pipes – where campers deposit cash.
