Wisconsin Mixed Bag: Gov. Evers names two DATCP board members

Madison — Gov. Tony Evers announced the reappointment of Cindy Brown and the appointment of Andy Hatch to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Board, effective May 2.

Brown has helped promote the health benefits of pulses by working with consumer groups and health organizations. Brown has also worked to improve the sustainability of the pulse industry by promoting sustainable farming practices and has been instrumental in expanding the global market for pulses by developing new markets and increasing exports. She is past-president of the Global Pulse Confederation and served as president of Chippewa Valley Bean from 2011-25.

Hatch was born in Wisconsin and studied dairy science at the University of Wisconsin, where he apprenticed with Master Cheesemaker Gary Grossen. Hatch apprenticed in several countries, including Norway, France, Italy, and England. Hatch since returned to Wisconsin to operate and eventually purchase Uplands Cheese, a dairy farm in Dodgeville, where he now lives, milks cows, and makes two award-winning cheeses.

Free Fishing Weekend is June 7-8

Madison — Anyone who doesn’t have a fishing license by Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, may take part in Wisconsin’s annual Free Fishing Weekend without having a fishing license, trout stamp or salmon stamp.

The weekend also includes a number of fishing clinics around the state (see the DNR website for a list of locations). Angler education instructors, clubs, state park staff and organizations are invited to host fishing clinics around the state. Complete a planning form and submit it by May 29 to get the word out.

Wisconsin has nearly 60 tackle loaner sites, many at state parks.
