Is another record tom harvest in the cards for Minnesota this spring?

Last spring, a total of about 59,600 turkey permits were issued by the DNR, up from about 53,500 the previous spring. The total harvest of about 16,700 was more than 50% higher than harvests are recently as 2018 and 2019. (Stock photo)

When Minnesota’s spring turkey season begins on April 16, hunters should expect much of what they experienced a year ago – good bird numbers, unpredictable turkey behavior, and similarly unpredictable spring weather, officials say.
But will it be another record-breaker? A year ago, the 16,700 toms taken during the spring hunt represented the highest harvest of the modern era.
