Nonresidents may pay more to hunt and fish in Ohio

If approved by the Ohio Legislature this summer, nonresidents will pay more for their hunting and fishing licenses in Ohio.
Gov. Mike DeWine’s two-year budget proposal issued in February included increases for nonresident licenses, which could kick in as early as this fall if approved by the legislature.

Michigan Natural Resources Commission mulls changes to bear hunt, raising concerns with some

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources proposed several changes in bear hunting license allocations and regulations at the Feb. 13 Natural Resources Commission meeting in Lansing.
The proposals came from discussions with the Bear Forum and the DNR’s internal Bear Work Group. (The Bear Forum meets annually and consists of 15 conservation organizations, the U.S. Forest Service and others.) A proposal to raise bear license numbers in the northern Lower Peninsula drew the sharpest criticism from members of the bear hunting community.

Ben Moyer: Will hellbenders really get endangered species listing? Don’t hold your breath

Never has there been a more unfortunate endangered species than the hellbender. Actually, the hellbender is a candidate Endangered species, not yet officially listed as Endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the federal agency which administers the Endangered Species Act, made law by the elected 93rd Congress in 1973.
The service did, however, declare its intent to list the hellbender as Endangered in December 2024, a long, long time ago in the upended realm of federal actions. Part of the hellbender’s misfortune may be bad timing.

Flintlock group lobbies for fall primitive season in Pennsylvania

However, recent hunting season changes led to concern over the future of traditional muzzleloading in the Keystone State. Specifically, there has been increased inclusion of centerfire rifles during a timeframe traditionally reserved for flintlocks or archery.
