Fishing regulations to change at Lower Woods Pond in Wayne County, Pa.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat commissioners voted to approve a change in fishing regulations at Lower Woods Pond, a Fish & Boat Commission lake located in Lebanon Township, Wayne County.
Under this changes, the 91-acre impoundment will be removed from the Big Bass program to allow for management under the Catch and Release Lakes program, which was approved by the board during the commission’s July 2024 quarterly business meeting.

Pennsylvania Mixed Bag: Monroeville Outdoor Show Feb. 14-16 

The USA International Sportsmen’s Show will run Feb. 14-16 at the Monroeville Convention Center near here, with about 120 exhibitors – including hunting and fishing outfitters, charters and safaris, boat and camper dealers, and sportsmen’s groups – as well as seminars and demonstrations.

Wisconsin DNR warns of changing ice conditions as sturgeon spearing starts this weekend

The Wisconsin DNR announced on Friday that recent temperature swings have created rapidly changing ice conditions in many parts of the state.
DNR wardens have responded to several incidents of recreational vehicles going through the ice. The DNR has already recorded six fatal UTV incidents in 2025, with four of those involving UTVs going through the ice. There has also been one ice-related snowmobile fatality.

Don’t blink: Michigan’s annual sturgeon season on Black Lake ends in 17 minutes

If you got delayed at the gas station or donut shop on your way to the Black Lake sturgeon season you likely missed the entire season.
The highly regulated, annual possession season in Michigan – open to hook-and-line fishing or spearing – began at 8 a.m. on Feb 1. It ended just 17 minutes later when the six-fish limit had been reached. By the time the word got out that the season had ended one more lake sturgeon had been iced.

Nebraska provides exciting winter waterfowling action

The 2024 Minnesota waterfowl season left me unsatiated – a feeling that nagged at me until I began planning an out-of-state waterfowling foray.
Just like many other Minnesota waterfowlers, the myriad days of stagnant action this past season left me craving more, scheming to extend my duck-hunting days. My first thought was a trip to southeastern Texas to chase birds on vast Sam Rayburn Reservoir, a body of water I know well.
