Boaters on Big Green Lake in Wisconsin may have been puzzled, maybe even startled, this past summer to see a barge loaded with a 50-foot tree traveling on the lake.
Then the tree was dumped overboard. Rest assured, it was not littering taking place. It was part of a Green Lake Aquatic Structure (GLAS) fish crib/tree drop project spearheaded by Chuck Hurley, the owner of Norton’s Dry Dock in Princeton.

Bass fishing tournament organizers wasted no time in reacting to a new regulation requiring them to obtain a permit to hold an event on a New York water. And the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Bureau of Fisheries likewise was quick to get the new system up and running.
The bureau recently announced that as of Jan. 1, 413 permits had been issued for 2025. They also provided online resources for applying, reporting on, and keeping track of them.
