Minnesota DNR monitoring results of trapping changes

Among the DNR’s changes to trapping seasons in Minnesota this year was an extension of the otter-trapping dates. While in the past the season has ended in January, this year the season extends to May 15 in both state zones. (Photo courtesy of USFWS)

With a calendar date extension for the Minnesota otter season and geographic extension for bobcat and fisher harvest this winter, trappers were eager to take advantage of new opportunities, says DNR Research Biologist John Erb. Despite that, he suspects that harvest totals at the end of their seasons will be normal, and possibly lower.
