They don’t really shoot turkeys anymore.
In fact, with today’s turkey shoots many organizers don’t even dole out hams, much less, frozen Butterballs. Instead, a winner may walk home with pork chops, baby-back ribs, a side of bacon, veal patties, shrimp, or even gift cards.
Recently, my wife, Bev, and I handed over nine bucks each to participate in my sportsmen’s club’s annual Thanksgiving Day eve turkey shoot. The Ashtabula County’s Rock Creek Conservation Club in Ohio has facilitated this shoot for longer than anyone can remember.
