As the firearms deer-hunting season drew to a close across much of Minnesota on Sunday, Nov. 17, firearms hunters had killed around 111,791 deer, a 5% increase from last year’s harvest, according to preliminary Minnesota DNR reports.
“(It’s) good news compared to last year. So harvest is up everywhere, so that’s good,” said Todd Froberg, the DNR’s big-game coordinator.
Froberg said he expects that when all deer-hunting seasons are over this year, total harvest will see about a 5% increase over last year’s take of 158,678 deer.

The Wisconsin Ice Fishing Expo will run Dec. 13-15 in a new location – the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) grounds, in Oshkosh.
Now in its second year, the expo venue change was needed because the show outgrew the previous facility its first year. This year’s show has many new vendors and free shuttles to ferry visitors from the parking areas.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources EagleCam, with viewers in all 50 states and more than 150 countries, will feature a new location and pair of bald eagles when it goes live Thursday. The original EagleCam will also remain on during the coming season.
The new camera will focus on the nesting behavior of a breeding pair of bald eagles that have successfully and consistently nested in the area for at least four years, rearing several broods of eaglets.
