Getting you ready for the 2024 North Dakota firearm deer season

Are you ready for the 2024 North Dakota deer gun season? Don’t confuse excitement and anticipation for “ready.” Most hunters were likely ready when last year’s season closed. While others rode the roller coaster of waiting for the 2024 season to be set, then applying for the deer license while spending time during summer months with the rifle at the range.

Steve Carney: An unexpected lighting system success for the duck boat

I finally found time to enhance my duck boat lighting system, but it was a real chore. I started with some UTV light bars, and it took me several hours to attach them with a 2X4 board. Then, after a morning duck hunt, I found myself disappointed in the range of the beam.
The light bar was rated at 7,800 lumens, which is a measurement on the power of the unit. I removed the bars and came up with a better solution using items I had in my garage.

Update: What hunters should know with CWD discovery in red deer at Herkimer County facility in New York

Editor’s Note: The recent discovery of CWD is in Herkimer County, not Jefferson County as previously reported.
For the first time since 2005, chronic wasting disease has been discovered in New York, this time in a deer at an unnamed private facility in Herkimer County, in upstate New York.
At press time, the incident was still considered isolated. While not detected in wild deer in the area, state officials are taking measures to test local wild deer herds for the debilitating disease that is fatal to white-tailed deer, and are prepared for more extreme measures should they be deemed warranted.
