As another hunting season begins, I was abruptly reminded how easy one gun safety slip-up can quickly ruin a day afield.
After my second dove hunt of the season, I dismantled my antique 12-gauge U.S.S.R.-made Baikal over/under shotgun to clean it as I have done each time since I began hunting about 50 years ago. I usually push a wad of paper towel dipped in Hoppes No. 9 gunpowder solvent through my barrels to remove any fouling until they are smooth and protected from rust.
