It’s not just Fat Bear Week in Alaska. Trail cameras are also capturing wolves, moose and more

Millions of people worldwide tuned in for a remote Alaska national park’s “Fat Bear Week” celebration this month, as captivating livestream camera footage caught the chubby predators chomping on salmon and fattening up for the winter.
But in the vast state known for its abundant wildlife, the magical and sometimes violent world of wild animals can be found close to home. Within half a mile of a well-populated neighborhood in Anchorage, the state’s biggest city, several trail cameras regularly capture animals ranging in size from wolverines to moose.

Iowa’s newest wildlife area, Bell Branch, is open for visitors in Davis County

Staff from the Sugema Wildlife Unit finished placing the Bell Branch Wildlife Area sign at the recently installed parking lot, just in time for the 2024 hunting seasons.
This newly acquired 514-acre public wildlife area in northern Davis County is roughly 350 acres of high-quality oak hickory timber with 85 acres on the south end enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The rest is pasture.

Hemorrhagic disease impacting many Iowa counties, but deer hunters off to a good start in 2024

That is slightly higher than both last year and the five-year average. The crop harvest, cooling temperatures and approaching rut, should increase deer activity leading to greater harvest success, the Iowa DNR said.

Fact or fiction, the lull seems to occur every year when deer that were scouted earlier, disappear from their normal haunts. These are the dog days for deer hunters.
