Adirondack High Peaks beckon to 10th Mt. Division in New York

In August, over 200 soldiers from Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division climbed all 46 of the Adirondack High Peaks, as a group, in a single day. Known as Operation Commando Summit, it is what a U.S. Army press release said “honored the division’s history and legacy as an elite alpine and mountain unit, emphasizing team-level war-fighting functions and adaptability to the modern battlefield.”

Lampricide treatments scheduled for Lake Champlain tributaries in New York

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife have scheduled fall lampricide applications for three Lake Champlain tributaries.
The Boquet River in New York, and portions of the Winooski and Missisquoi rivers in Vermont, will receive this year’s treatments.

Designation official of Lake Ontario marine sanctuary in New York

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and other state and national leaders recently celebrated the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) historic designation of the Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary.
The Lake Ontario Sanctuary will become only the 16th site in the National Marine Sanctuary System and the first to be designated off New York State’s coast.
