Menasha’s Fox River lock closed indefinitely to help protect Wisconsin’s Lake Winnebago from threat of round gobies

The possibility of round gobies entering Wisconsin’s Lake Winnebago will keep Menasha’s Fox River lock closed indefinitely. That decision was made in June by the Fox River Navigational System Authority (FRNSA) in Kaukauna.
The Fox River leaves Lake Winnebago from its northwest corner at Neenah and Menasha, then flows north about 39 miles to Green Bay. The river drops 168 feet during that stretch. Dams at Neenah and Menasha prevent boats or fish from entering Lake Winnebago. There are 17 locks on the river that could allow boats to run from Menasha to Green Bay if all the locks were in operation.
