Iowa’s Prairie Chicken Festival is April 6

The unique courtship of Iowa’s prairie chickens will be on full display at Iowa’s Kellerton Grasslands Bird Conservation Area on April 6, during the annual Prairie Chicken Festival, in Ringgold County.
The festival will be held at the Kellerton viewing platform, two miles west and one mile south of Kellerton. There is ample parking and the viewing platform is accessible for those with limited mobility.

Iowa DNR investigates tree and fire vandalism at Big Creek State Park

On March 15 around 10:30 p.m. several local law enforcement agencies were called to Big Creek State Park to extinguish an illegal bonfire at the east boat ramp, which was allegedly set by a party of youths. When officials arrived on scene, the youths dispersed. No arrests have been made.

Minnesota’s Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council approves $12.1 million for Mississippi River carp barrier

The Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council on Tuesday approved a motion to fund a carp barrier on the Mississippi River. Dollars were available for the project based on the February 2024 budget forecast, which showed an additional $12.1 million in the Outdoor Heritage Fund.

Tom Venesky: Trespassing bill in Pennsylvania would restore private property rights as it pertains to retrieving hunting dogs

A bill recently introduced in the Pennsylvania Senate addresses the issue of trespassing and even includes dogs in the mix.
But will it be more bark than bite? Senate Bill 1087 was drafted by Sens. Greg Rothman and Elder Vogel as part of a package of crop-damage bills. It establishes stronger penalties for trespassing on private property while hunting or furtaking.
