Wisconsin DNR ordered to reinstate fired game warden Andrew Dryja

Andrew Dryja, of Suring, was a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation warden in Langlade County for 19 years before the DNR fired him in 2018 for three work rule violations, including transporting his children in an agency vehicle.
Dryja contended he was wrongfully terminated and contested his dismissal before the Wisconsin Employee Relations Commission (WERC), in Oconto County Circuit Court and, finally, before the District IV Court of Appeals. Meanwhile, he was hired as a deputy by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department.

Mike Raykovicz: Last call ice bait for panfish

With this warm winter weather, most lakes remain unfrozen or have only a thin skim of ice, which means ice fishing has been put on hold for most of us.
For years my neighbor and I headed a few miles south across the Pennsylvania border to ice fish for trout. The only lures we ever used were black, yellow, or white bucktail jigs and small jigging Rapala minnows. We usually caught trout and never considered using bait of any description unless we targeted perch or other panfish.

State Roundup: Looking for the 96- and 102-year-old deer hunters from Wisconsin

Our veteran outdoors reporter, Tim Eisele, passed along a bit of interesting information that he picked up from the DNR deer season report delivered at the Feb. 28 Natural Resources Board meeting.
A total of 569 Wisconsin deer hunters who are more than 90 years old bought a gun deer season license. The oldest man was 102 and the oldest woman was 96 years young. If you happen to know the 102-year-old gent or the 96-year-old lady and they’re wouldn’t mind ending up in a story on our pages, please email me at dean@outdoornews.com.
