Fly-fishing’s first lady, Pennsylvania’s Cathy Beck, widely mourned after her death on Argentina trip

The fishing world is mourning the loss of legendary fly-angler Cathy Beck, of Benton, Montgomery County, Pa., who died suddenly Feb. 7 while hosting a group at Laguna Verde Lodge (Jurassic Lake) in a remote region of Argentina, with her husband, Barry.
Cathy, 71, passed peacefully with Barry at her side, according to the couple’s longtime friend Larry Cooney, of Harrisburg, who was on the trip.

Iowa DNR seeking information after state’s largest sycamore tree is severely damaged by fire

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is asking the public for any information as to the cause of a suspicious fire at Geode State Park on Sunday, Feb. 18. 

According to Park Ranger Andrew Kuckler, a visitor alerted staff that a tree in the park was burning.

State archery tournament returns to the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines March 1-3

An estimated 2,300 students from more than 140 schools from across Iowa will be in the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center and the 4H Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on March 1-3, to participate in the 18th National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament. This is the largest youth archery tournament in Iowa.

Minnesota High School Clay Target League slams new lead ammo prohibition bill

The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MNSHSCTL) issued a statement this week citing its unease with new legislation in St. Paul that would prohibit lead ammunition and require nontoxic ammunition for school shooting sports.
House File 3813, authored by Rep. Patty Acomb, DFL-Minnetonka, and Senate File 3792, authored by Sen. Jennifer McEwen, DFL-Duluth, would prohibit lead ammunition and require nontoxic shot for the shooting sports league at practices, competitions, training, and other events.
The HF3813 and SF3792 bills also include details related to all Minnesota hunters and anglers.
