Michigan man captures rare video of cougar killing a deer

Eli Schaefer from Houghton, Mich., still can’t believe he was lucky enough to capture video of a cougar killing a white-tailed deer on one of his trail cameras near Toivola in Houghton County on the afternoon of Dec. 30, 2023.
The dramatic video shows a large male mountain lion after it pounced on and overpowers what appears to be a young antlerless deer.

Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame unveils 2024 class

Four individuals and three organizations will be enshrined by the Fishing Hall of Fame of Minnesota in 2024.
Inductees in the Individual Legends category are Scott Bonnema, Tom Zenanko, Matt Straw and Nancy Koep. In addition, Fishing for Life, Ice Team, and Wayzata Bait & Tackle will round out the list for the year.

New approach will test the removal of invasives at Iowa’s Backbone State Park

Iowa Department of Natural Resources foresters are using a novel plan to eliminate invasive species, testing that approach at Backbone State Park near Strawberry Point.
The approach involves using a bulldozer and excavator to pull out decimated pine trees and invading plants in the infested area, planting brohm grass, killing resurgent broad-leaf plants and planting seedlings in the affected acreage. The project will take up to three years to complete.

Pennsylvania has more organized coyote hunts than any other state, about two dozen. Increasingly, in other states, the public has found them to be barbaric.
Last month New York became the 10th state to ban coyote-hunting contests. Others include Maryland, Oregon, Washington, California, Vermont, New Mexico, Arizona, Massachusetts and Colorado.
