Dogs and algae-laden water don’t mix

Exercising bird dog breeds via “water work” is great for keeping or getting a canine in shape for the hunting season.
What the activity should not experience, however, is for a dog to become ill even to death by the activity. And yet both of those possibilities exist should a dog be endangered through the ingestion of what’s commonly called “blue-green” algae.

Picking a puppy is no easy task

If you are a small game hunter – upland birds, waterfowl, rabbits, maybe even squirrels – odds are good that you have (or at least want to have) a dog. Or dogs. It’s some of the most fun you can have outdoors. 
I like pointing dogs, personally. My first dog was a Lab; at the time I got him, I was heavy into waterfowl hunting. And who doesn’t like a Lab? But as I evolved as a sportsman, I gravitated toward upland birds and it was only natural to switch to a pointing dog.

PGC, partners to hold event in Pittsburgh to introduce urban residents to outdoor activities

City folks can get a taste of hunting, fishing, and related pursuits when the Pennsylvania Game Commission and partner agencies sponsor Explore PA Outdoors near downtown Pittsburgh Aug. 19.
Open to the public free of charge, the event, at Point State Park, is aimed at introducing urbanites to some of what Pennsylvania’s woods and waters have to offer.
