A bear that attacked and tried to carry off a toddler in Luzerne County was captured and euthanized less than a week after the May 22 incident, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
The 14-month-old’s sibling, age 5, also was attacked as the children played in the front yard and driveway of their Wright Township home, the commission said. The children suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including bites and scratches, and were treated and released at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Kayak fishing is as big as ever, perhaps because it simply makes sense. The angler/paddler can go practically anywhere in small, muscle-powered boats and fish for just about any species.
With the right gear you can chase striped bass on the Hudson River, troll for brook trout in an Adirondack pond, or cast endlessly in largemouth and smallmouth bass waters.

During the month of June, most anglers focus their efforts on the shallower portions of lakes. They spend their days casting for fish in and around rejuvenated weed growth. There’s some real merit to that because so many different species are in shallow water at this point.
That said, anglers who completely ignore the deep, open-water areas of a water body are making a mistake. The early parts of summer offer some great trolling opportunities for plus-sized predators such as walleyes, muskies, and pike.
