Here’s how to rig your solo kayak for fishing

For more than two decades the author has fished from a self-rigged recreational touring style kayak that allows him to cover plenty of water when needed, and especially to get into tight places and shallow conditions. Along with the essentials, this boat has rod-holders and a mesh work deck for tackle storage. (Photo by Dan Ladd)

Kayak fishing is as big as ever, perhaps because it simply makes sense. The angler/paddler can go practically anywhere in small, muscle-powered boats and fish for just about any species.
With the right gear you can chase striped bass on the Hudson River, troll for brook trout in an Adirondack pond, or cast endlessly in largemouth and smallmouth bass waters.
