Michigan groups rally to preserve Cornwall Creek Flooding dam

Efforts are underway to save the Cornwall Creek Flooding dam in the heart of Pigeon River Country, but the uphill effort is not expected to prevent a drawdown scheduled for this summer.
Local residents and others are organizing in hopes of keeping the impoundment, which they contend is central to the state forest’s character and recreational opportunities, noting the lake’s draw for anglers, horseback riders, kayakers, and birdwatchers.

Why Minnesota’s ‘C’ and ‘D’ season might be the best time to bag a bird

Just a few of the advantages of holding off to hunt spring turkeys until the midseason options – seasons C and D – include greening grass, leafing trees, warmer weather, and toms still looking for love but finding fewer suitors available.

Fur Harvesters Auction in March featured mostly higher prices

The Fur Harvesters Auction (FHA), the only international auction outlet for most North American wild fur, held its first auction of the year March 20-22 in North Bay, Ontario.
Most items were up significantly over last year’s results although, for the most part, offerings were relatively small. One example of this was an offering of 35,000 raccoons. Ten years ago, between the now defunct NAFA and FHA, that offering was over 2 million.

Here’s how to test your luck on long-shot moose, elk lotteries in eastern states

You don’t need to head West to hunt the majestic elk, or to Alaska, the Yukon or Newfoundland to put your tag on a moose. With a little luck – well, maybe a lot of luck – you can draw a permit through popular lotteries in Pennsylvania and Kentucky for elk, and in three New England states (Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) for moose.
It happens every year: nonresident hunters scoring a permit through the lottery systems in each state.
