Registration open for Long Island spring turkey hunt

Although a youth season has been in place for a number of years, Long Island hunters are about to enjoy a complete spring turkey season. Hunters heading for state lands will need to register with DEC by March 13. (Stock photo)

Long Island’s first spring turkey hunt in over a century will begin on May 1. However, those hoping to hunt turkeys on state-owned land must first request a hunting reservation, through the Department of Environmental Conservation’s online system, before 4:45 p.m. on March 13.
