Chesapeake Bay Report shows bleak outlook for fisheries, water quality, but help may be coming

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s 2022 State of the Bay Report paints a dim picture for the immediate outlook on both recreational and commercial fisheries in the Chesapeake Bay region, as well as water quality in general. New state and federal funding toward programs to help limit pollution may help turn the tide.

Battle continues in fight to eliminate Eurasian watermilfoil from Iowa’s Okoboji

Eurasian watermilfoil was discovered on Iowa’s lower Okoboji chain of lakes late in the summer of 2022. With the help of outside organizations in fundraising efforts, the DNR is now working hard to eliminate the invasive plant that can kill off native vegetation that is important for fish and other underwater species.

In May of 2022, Pheasants Forever Minnesota worked out an agreement with the owners to purchase a 195.5 acre property of farmland that frequently floods.
Conservationists, clean-water groups and lake homeowners in the Iowa Great Lakes Watershed have worked for years to secure this property.
