After a rebound in Wyoming’s bison population, the state Game and Fish Department is planning a hunt this fall.
The agency announced at a meeting over the weekend that a bison hunt will take place between Sept. 1 and Nov. 1 on the North Fork. Hunters will be allowed to harvest three animals each.
State wildlife biologist Tony Mong said the agency has “fielded quite a few calls” from people interested in a hunt.
Most of the bison in the North Fork “got tired of the fast pace of living” in Yellowstone National Park, Mong said, adding, “They’re older bulls kind of living on their own.”
Separate meetings about grizzly bear and gray wolf hunting will be held around the state later in the year.
