Northwest Minnesota Fishing Report – March 29th, 2013

Look for sunfish tight to the bottom and crappies suspended a couple feet up over 15 to 20 feet at West Battle Lake, East Lost Lake, and South Turtle Lake. It’s difficult to get around on most lakes.

There’s a lot of snow and water on all lakes so snowmobiles remain the best way to travel. Look for suspended tullibees over deep water at Loon Lake and Long Lake. A few panfish are being caught from area lakes, but finding numbers of good-sized fish remains difficult mainly due to the fact that anglers can’t get where they want to go.

Deep snow and slush limits travel on area lakes. Most people are using snowmobiles or walking, and with the water under the snow even that can be a lot of work. Of note is Straight Lake for sunfish and a few crappies in 10 to 14 feet.
