Metro Area Fishing Report – July 6th, 2012
Throw spinnerbaits or plastics on the docks of Demonterville Lake for bass. Walleyes are hitting crankbaits or leeches in 20 to 30 feet in the Hudson and Prescott areas of the St. Croix River. The deep weedlines on White Bear Lake and Forest Lake have been productive for muskies.

The shallow weeds of Lake Bavaria are giving up bass and sunfish. You’ll catch bass at a good pace on Whaletail Lake and Lake Zumbra. Pike are hitting suckers in 10 to 12 feet at Zumbra and Steiger Lake.

Find an establish weedline adjacent to the main-lake reefs and you should find a mixed bag of fish. Crappies are being caught in eight to 10 feet in these areas, as are bass, pike, muskies, and the occasional walleye, which are taken mainly after dark in 12 feet.

LAKE MINNETONKA AREA
Walleyes, bass, and pike can be caught on the weedlines of Lake Minnetonka. A few bigger muskies have been hooked with bucktails on the weedlines in the bigger bays on Minnetonka. Sunfish are in eight to 12 feet on Minnetonka, Lake Independence, and Medicine Lake.

Walleyes are hitting nightcrawlers and leeches on the weedlines out to 24 feet at Clearwater Lake and Lake Sylvia. Crappies and sunfish are on the 15- to 18-foot weedlines of lakes Sylvia, Clearwater, John, French, Indian, and Maple. Muskie anglers on Sugar are reporting active fish during low-light periods in the 10- to 15-foot weeds.

A few walleyes are hitting jigs or slip-bobber rigs tipped with leeches during low-light periods at South Lindstrom Lake and Green Lake in 16 to 20 feet. Bass fishing has been exceptional on all lakes with spinnerbaits in the weeds. Sunfish can be had on the eight- to 10-foot weedlines of Chisago Lake, South Center Lake, and South Lindstrom.
