In his new position, the former assistant regional director for
ecological services will work closely with fish and wildlife
services program managers and staff to oversee USFWS activities in
Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and
Wisconsin. The region manages 1.2 million acres of lands and waters
on 55 national wildlife refuges and 12 wetland management
districts.
Wooley also will focus on advancing partnerships between the
USFWS and state agencies, American Indian tribes, and private
conservation groups. He replaces Marvin Moriarty, who served as
deputy director for 15 years before being named regional director
for the USFWS’ Northeast Region last year.
