Last year, hunters registered 277,755 deer during the nine-day
season. Many deer management units in Wisconsin continue to be
above population goals. In addition, wildlife officials are
continuing efforts to drastically reduce the deer herd in a large
section of southern Wisconsin surrounding the area where deer
infected with chronic wasting disease have been found.
