Bismarck, N.D. Fish house users are reminded that licenses for permanent or portable fish houses are no longer needed in North Dakota. The law, which was required for both residents and nonresidents, was repealed by the 1999 Legislature.

Anglers must still identify their fish houses if they intend to leave them unoccupied at any time. That ID must include, in three-inch letters and numbers, the owner’s name and address or phone number. Unidentified houses left on the ice may be removed and destroyed by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. The NDGFD

Brainerd, Minn. With just a little snow covering the ground, many outdoor enthusiasts are turning to their ATVs instead of their snowmobiles, but they need to remember to steer clear of grant-in-aid snowmobile trails.

While grant-in-aid snowmobile trails open Dec. 1, they are always off-limits to ATVs and motorcycles. ATVs are allowed on the bottom or the outside slopes of road right-of-ways, designated ATV trails, private land with the landowner’s permission and on frozen lakes. Madison, Wis. A preliminary call-in tally of registration stations across the state of Wisconsin shows hunters taking a record of 437,737 deer during the recently completed nine-day gun deer hunt.

“The season’s not over yet,” said state DNR chief deer and bear ecologist Bill Mytton. The muzzleloader season ran through Dec. 3 and another special, antlerless-only “Zone T” hunt was scheduled for Dec. 7-10 in a large portion of the state. The deer population before this year’s hunt was estimated to be about 1.7 million.
