Brainerd, Minn. With just a little snow covering the ground, many outdoor enthusiasts are turning to their ATVs instead of their snowmobiles, but they need to remember to steer clear of grant-in-aid snowmobile trails.

While grant-in-aid snowmobile trails open Dec. 1, they are always off-limits to ATVs and motorcycles. ATVs are allowed on the bottom or the outside slopes of road right-of-ways, designated ATV trails, private land with the landowner’s permission and on frozen lakes.
