The Republican-authored bill would allow people of any age to participate in a mentored hunt, effectively letting anyone hunt.
Would be scaled back in counties with chronic wasting disease; bill now headed to governor.
Senate already passed bill; would only then need Gov. Scott Walker’s signature to lift CWD protection.
A number of other Great Lakes states allow woodchuck hunting, including Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and even Pennsylvania, which is home of Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog that predicts the length of winters.
State Assembly approves exemptions; measure moves on to Senate.
