Time for day-trippin’ fishing at Upper Red
It’s hard to believe it continues to put out walleyes given all the winter pressure and now the open-water pressure.

It’s hard to believe it continues to put out walleyes given all the winter pressure and now the open-water pressure.
For the most part, many areas reported excellent fishing for a variety of species along established weed edges or weed flats. This is even more true for bigger panfish, bass, and pike, and walleyes.
There seemed to be quite a bit of fish movement to deeper water this week.
Rapidly warming water has meant summer patterns have started to develop for most species.
After the cold front last week, weather conditions stabilized a bit more and walleyes seem to be responding in most areas.
It sounds as if everything picked up with the clouds and wind last weekend and many areas reported a better walleye bite this week than during opening weekend.
The best reports came from water less than 15 feet deep on minnows or leeches, but some walleyes were found deep as well.
It finally sounds as if air temperatures are going to warm and stay that way through this weekend and that should bode well for crappie and walleye anglers alike for this weekend’s fishing opener.
Even though the spawn has basically been over for a couple weeks, look for walleyes in shallow depths of 6-12 feet especially if there is wind affecting shallow structures.
