On inland lakes, particularly in the southern part of the state, anglers are doing fairly well on crappies.

And Fish & Boat Commission lists Lake Pleasant as one of its “best fishing waters” for stocked trout in the state.

Finally some ice fishing was happening in recent weeks. Here’s what they’re catching and where.

It’s stocked heavily with walleye fingerlings during odd-numbered years, and those fish typically provide anglers with an abundance of eating-size walleyes to catch.

Crappie and bluegill activity seems to have really improved with the majority of ‘gills still weed-related in less than 15 feet.

Quick-strike rigs are more effective, usually allowing you to set the hook immediately instead of giving the pike time to chew.

Places like the Adirondacks, Catskills and anywhere else where lakes are at higher elevations should be seeing some action if cooler weather arrives, with light winds.
