Anglers who were still fishing in recent weeks were mostly targeting recently stocked trout in small lakes, walleyes in rivers and a few lakes, and panfish.

Chalk Hills supports a good fishery with evidence of natural reproduction for several species. The walleye and smallmouth populations appear strong.

Use your underwater camera or use your electronics to find those little green lines on the bottom to indicate weed growth. Little green lines on the electronics don’t move, signifying weeds on the bottom.

Kokosing ranks right up there with Knox Lake and Hargus Lake, two of the better bass fisheries around.

Clearwater’s “nice” average size means you’ll consistently hook bass that run in the 2- to 3-pound class. Fish up to 5 pounds are expected; they’re not the exception.

Walleye reports were better this week than last, but that’s likely due to better ice conditions to the north and more anglers getting out. It hasn’t been an all day/every day bite, but low-light periods

White crappies are a blast — and challenging — to target through the ice.
