Ice conditions varied last week from one region of the state to another. There was no safe ice yet in southern Michigan. Conditions improved as you move north, but many of the larger, deeper lakes

The fishing outlook for northeast Ohio’s steelhead streams is excellent right now. The Rocky and Chagrin rivers, as well as the Cuyahoga, were giving up their share of steelhead.

Otisco has a solid reputation for producing tiger muskies, and often big tigers, during both the open-water and ice fishing seasons.

Ice conditions are improving, but angling activity has been low due to unsafe ice. Check ice thickness often if you venture out.

There was no safe ice in southern Michigan, but a few anglers were getting out in open water on Lake Erie, the St. Clair River and Saginaw Bay and enjoying a pretty good walleye bite.
