It’s one of Oconto County’s most popular inland lakes and offers a variety of fishing opportunities.
There are better trout streams in Wisconsin than the Prairie River, but Prairie is this writer’s river, where he has fished for trout for the last 30 years and where he caught his career-best brook
It offers a diverse profile of panfish, game fish, and rough fish species. The game fish species even include walleyes and muskies.
The river’s fishery includes brook, brown and rainbow trout, as well as the occasional bluegill and largemouth bass.
Clark’s walleye growth rates run above state average, but there aren’t a lot of large walleyes in the lake.
There are a number of reasons to fish Squaw. It has strong, naturally reproducing populations of all typical northern Wisconsin gamefish species.
Even if the DNR doesn’t have an exact count on the walleyes, there are plenty of fish of all types out there and anglers don’t have to hunt too hard to find them.
Little was known about Yellow Lake sturgeon until anglers caught two record hook-and-line fish in 1979. One record still stands as the state hook-and-line record at 79 inches and 170 pounds, 10 ounces.
